WE NEED RESEARCHED SOLUTIONS TO COVID-19 CHALLENGES – MANDAGO

Uasin Governor Jackson Mandago has called on academic institutions to carry out more research and publish scientifically-based solutions to socio-economic challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

He spoke on Wednesday at the county headquarters when he received findings of a report published by Moi University in conjunction with the Eldoret chapter of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The reports whose research was done in April showed that small and micro-economic enterprises in the region had laid off up to sixty per cent of their workforce.

While presenting the report, Moi University Director of International Relations, Professor Charles Lagat also added that the local hospitality operated at 25% of their usual potential while the transport sector was at 50%. Other businesses were found to be operating at 75%. The report recommends a reduction of taxes and levies as a way of cushioning businesses from collapse.

During the event, Governor Mandago asked Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eldoret chapter to establish a COVID- 19 Economic Strategy Recovery Committee.

Also, present to during the presentation were Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno, Trade and Industrialization CECM Dr Emily Kogos, Evelyn Rotich (Health) and County Secretary Edwin Bett.
