UG RECEIVES DONATION WORTH SH10 MILLION FROM AMREF

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Hon. Daniel Chemno has commended the staff and health personnel for their exemplary work on how best they have handled the coronavirus scourge situation in the county.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a global pandemic especially dangerous for people with pre-existing conditions. The disease has resulted in fatalities across the globe with over 900,000 deaths reported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as of 15 September 2020.

Chemno was speaking on Wednesday when he flagged off ambulances donated by Amref Health Africa in Kenya with the support from European Union. The ambulances will be used for maternity services during the curfew hours by dialling 1196.

Amref partnering with I Choose Life (ICL) a youth – focussed organization, also handed over PPEs worth Ksh 10 million towards the fight against COVID 19 pandemic.

Amref Representative Dr Bernard Lagat, said: “It is our promise to help in ensuring the people of Uasin Gishu get their needs in regards to COVID 19 prevention.”

The Deputy thanked them for the kind gesture, “Thanks Amref because, cognisant of the fact that we have a curfew 9 pm to 5 am, getting maternity services during these times have been challenging, we appreciate your support of providing an ambulance so that people can just call and get services.” he said.

On her part, Health CECM Evelyn Rotich cautioned that COVID 19 rules and regulation shouldn’t be relaxed as “we are not out of the woods yet”.
