Ugandan Clerk to Authority, Reuben Kamoge has praised Uasin Gishu’s diversification idea terming it the best way forward to improve the locals’ livelihood.
Kamoge who was accompanied by the County Director in charge of Agriculture, Wilbur Mutai praised the leadership that has seen many rallied to join the move.
Having Uasin Gishu being widely known as the Country’s breadbasket, that alone was not enough.
Governor Jackson Mandago’s leadership resorted to sensitize farmers diversify after farmers experienced severe exploitation by middlemen on maize related matters.
Kamoge indicated that maize is sold at a cheaper cost in Uganda, unlike Kenya.
Buying Maize in Uganda is cheaper than in Kenya and has seen many cross to our side and export the product.I would advice the County residents to diversify to evade exploitation by middlemen”, He said
Director Wilbur Mutai commended the residents for embracing the substitution idea on agricultural matters that has seen many reap big.
I am happy that farmers have grown a variety of crops on their farms as we speak, Apart from the promotional seedlings like Macadamia and Avocado, growth of seasonal crops is also taking shape in the County”, said Mutai.
The Ugandan Clerk together with the Director were speaking while visiting a Mushroom farmer, Daniel K Rotich based in Kapseret.
Mushroom farming is also a lucrative business that has transformed the life of the farmer now that he has greatly invested and benefited more.
