The Department of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries visited Green Farm Legetet self-help group in Megun Ward, a self-help group that benefitted from the Kijana na Acre Phase 1 and Horticulture Business Strategy (HBS).
Leading the team whose aim was to determine how the funds has helped them, Kapseret sub-county Agricultural Officer Evelyn Andiema lauded the group for using the funds to change their lives. She further urged the youths to take advantage of the Government fundings as the group benefited from Ksh. 200,000 Kijana na acre funds to plant pineapples as a multiplication site.
The self-help group consists of 17 members with each member having planted more than 0.5 acres of pineapple and avocados and has benefited from HBS where they were given a water tank, shed net, irrigation kit and Avocado seedlings to multiply.
The group is currently crafting avocados and produce different kinds of seedlings that they sell to farmers.
