Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains of significant concern in Kenya. Casualties of the crime have largely been women and children who bear the brand of cultural believes and practice that propagate violence.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu together with Ampath, Redcross, Ministry of Health amongst others is set to roll out a sensitization campaign on gender-based violence in the county’s hot spot areas that include Kapseret, Turbo and Soy Sub Counties as an intervention measure against the act.
Since the outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic, there has been a rise in GBV especially among women and children across the nation Uasin Gishu included.
Speaking during the sexual and gender-based violence stakeholders meeting, the County Executive for Health Services Mrs Everlyn Rotich condemned those perpetrating the heinous act.
We need to be civilized and uphold respect to human life as we are all equal. Its high time we come out and report these gender-based violence’s so that the law can take its course,” said Rotich.
