Uasin Gishu county kicks off tree planting exercise

The County Government of Uasin Gishu together with Eldoret City Marathon on Monday flagged off tree planting exercise within the County by distributing tree seedlings.

Leading the exercise was CECM Environment, Ms Mary Njogu who distributed 10,000 tree seedlings for planting.

She urged those who were given the seedlings to grow and nurture them because they will do a monitoring and evaluation and surcharge those who will not take care of the trees.

“We have distributed 10,000 seedlings including grevillea and cypress to schools, police stations, health centres and vocational training centres. We expect 95% survival rate” said CECM Njogu.

She added that tree planting will be launched in all the Sub-Counties and later distributed to farmers so as to involve everyone in tree planting.

” We want to green Uasin Gishu to avert the effects of climate change” Added the CECM.

Among those who received the seedlings are Eldoret Police Station, Kenya pipeline, Deliverance church, St Elizabeth Megun VTC, Loreto Convent Secondary School and Uasin Gishu Peace Forum.
