Uasin Gishu County Governor H.E Hon Jackson Mandago EGH, on Monday launched the distribution of re-usable face masks to all public ECDE centres across the County in Atanas Kandie primary school, Huruma Ward, Turbo Subcounty.
The distribution of 80,000 face masks will benefit over 36,000 pupils and 1500 ECDE teachers in all public institutions.
The initiative is part of strategies employed by the County Government of Uasin Gishu to stop the spread of coronavirus in schools.
Speaking during the event, the County Boss asked the school heads to upscale the containment measures placed by the ministry of health.
“As a County Government, we shall ensure all ECDEs have a handwashing tank and provide soaps. All pupils should learn without interruption and this will be possible through following the ministry of Health guidelines.” said the county boss.
On his part, Education CECM Joseph Kurgat assured that his team will distribute the face masks to every ECDE pupil in all the public ECDEs across the County.
The County through the Department of Education has constructed over 600 modern class units, equipped with learning materials as well as the construction of ablution blocks in some schools.
Besides this, the County has also employed trained ECDE teachers.
Other top county officials present were CECM Health Dr. Evelyne Rotich, Education Chief Officer Jane Njuguna, Director Education Dr. William Morogo, Turbo Subcounty Ward Administrator Wilson Sawe and several ward administrators.
