The County Government of Uasin Gishu, Department of Agriculture Livestock Development and Fisheries have embarked on a campaign to prepare farmers to produce fresh produce and utilize the Eldoret International Airport for export of fresh produce soon its approval succeeds.
Agricultural Officer in charge Of Ainabkoi Sub-County Mr Joel Kiyeny during a field day at Grace farm Kapsoya Ward said that they are ready to assist farmers to develop strawberry farms because they are assured of a ready market.
Strawberry farming does not require a huge piece of land and therefore it is suitable for Kapsoya residents who occupy a small piece of land,” says Kiyeng.
Area Ward MCA Hon. Isaac Kirwa said that they are going to push for the subsidies of seedlings so that many farmers can adopt strawberry farming. Kemboi also vowed to support budgets from the Department of agriculture.
On his part, Richard Omunyul, a strawberry farmer in Kapsoya said that he harvests the fruits twice a week which has assisted him to better his livelihood.
