The Roads Section is responsible for the development, rehabilitation and maintenance of road network in the County. Uasin Gishu is boasts of improved roads network having graded and gravelled roads across all the wards. The County Government of Uasin Gishu has prioritized the expansion of road networks to reduce the cost of doing business and link farmers to markets. This is important for sustained economic transformation. New roads that were impassable have been opened to improve accessibility and connectivity.
The department of Roads, Transport and Public works has graded more than 5,000 km, gravelled over 1800 Km and opened more than 200Km of new roads, 3600m of culverts installed and over 30 bridges and box culverts constructed. Some of the bridges include Megun-Songoliet in Megun ward; with an aim of opening up access to Moi University and Ongata Megun Health centre, Kaptoro Bridge connecting Kipkenyo and Kapsaos wards, St Georges-St James Bridge in Kapseret ward, Kaaboi Bridge connecting Kiplombe and Soy wards, Kapnyangi Bridge connecting Kuinet/ Kapsuswa and Sergoit wards, Soy-Kipsomba Bridge connecting Soy and Kipsomba wards and Kaptait-Mogoiywet Box Culvert in Soy ward.
In an effort to reduce the traffic challenges, the Roads department has created new roads among them the famous Mandago road (Kipchoge- Dola- Moi Girls by-pass), Lands -KEMSA – Iten road, Construction of 64, Kago and Muliro Streets to bitumen standards and rehabilitation of Kimathi Street. Traffic congestion in Eldoret town has reduced due to the construction of footpaths along Eldoret-Iten road and Kisumu Road to Langas, re-carpeting of Fims Road and the construction of the bridge across River Sosiani to link Fims Road to Panvila-Pioneer Health Centre.
The transport section is responsible for transport policy formulation and development of the regulatory framework, transport, infrastructure, management of the vehicle fleet and public transport through the allocation of working spaces and bus terminals.
Public Works , Fire and Emergency Service
The Public Works Section is responsible for the development, maintenance and rehabilitation of government buildings and other public works in the county.
To ensure the safety of investments within the NOREB region, Uasin Gishu has invested heavily on the state of the art firefighting machines, increasing fire stations from one to three, sponsored firefighters to attend international fire training in the US and the average response time in case of fire outbreak is 20 to 23 minutes
In order to promote a 24 hour economy and improve the County economic growth, the department has installed Solar and conventional street lights within the County in various estates and urban centres like Langas, Maili Nne, Pioneer, Race Course,Kipkaren, Elgon View, Uganda Road, Kisumu Road, Huruma, Kapsoya,Sukunanga, Nandi Road, Waiganjo Street, Kahoya, Kimathi Street, 64 Street among others.
