The County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Trade and Industrialization is zealously working to ensure traders are provided with a conducive working environment.
A team led by the Departments’ Executive Committee Member Dr. Emily Kogos on Tuesday toured Kimumu Ward where an ultra-modern wholesale market is set to be established. This comes ahead of the official groundbreaking ceremony that has been scheduled to take place later in the month.
Speaking during the tour, Dr Kogos Challenged the first phase Contractor that comprises two shades to deliver. The contractor disclosed that they will complete their task within the agreed timelines.
“We are banking our hopes on you….ensure you deliver since the project has been issued a lot of money and we expect the best,” Said Dr. Kogos.
“….This market will serve Uasin Gishu and the entire North Rift region. It will have 4 strategic coolers that will aid preservation of perishable produce before sell,” Added the former University don.
Upon completion, the market will greatly boost the county revenue besides playing a key role in matters decongestion of the recently refurbished Eldoret main market.
On her part area MCA Sarah Malel praised the move by the County Government to set up the market in the area as it will create employment to residents majorly being the youth.
”I am glad that the contractor engaged our area youth at the onset of this project. It is my appeal that they will be considered until the project is complete.” Said Malel.
