Eldoret town is growing rapidly, making it one of the major municipalities that have been considered by the Kenya Urban Support Program for development grant worth over Ksh.600 million.
Following the participation agreement signed by H.E. the Governor, Hon. Jackson K. Mandago EGH, in 2017, with the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and urban development, the projects are set to start immediately.
Speaking during the handover of the projects to the contractors, Lands and Urban Planning, County Executive Committee Member Eng. Nelson Maritim, asked the contractors to adhere to every specification as required by the Development partner.
” Am calling on all of us to work hand in hand with each other; to ensure the successful completion of this project as per it’s required timeliness. This will also help us solve challenges that may arise along the way,” said Eng. Maritim.
The projects range from improvement of road Infrastructure, construction of stormwater drainage, construction of High masts, paving of Eldoret CBD service lanes and creation of Non-Motorised Transport Infrastructure at chepkoilel zionmall, Sosiani, and MTRH.
Eng. Gideon Birir, CEC Department of Roads, Transport and Public works, with his Counterpart from the Department of Environment, Mrs.Mary Njogu echoed their sentiments on the importance of safety and cleanliness as key factors while carrying out the projects. The projects are timely as Uasin Gishu County Government is working round the clock to ensure Eldoret attains the city status soon.
The handover was also attended by the County Secretary Mr. Edwin Bett, joined by Chief Officers Mr. KennethMbeka, Mr. Simion Kemei, and Mr. Barnabas Too, of Urban planning, Environment and Roads respectively as well as the Municipal Manager Mr. Tito Koiyet.
