Uasin Gishu CECM for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Mr. Samuel Yego has asked farmers to make sure they spray their farms immediately after planting to root out fall armyworm.
Last planting season, the worm destroyed many crops especially in the North Rift region.
Mr Yego while speaking on Thursday in Jagir Farm during a mini field day organized by Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) on potato,Yego urged farmers to make use of cooperatives citing the County’s move of offering free transportation of fertilisers to their various stores as one advantage of belonging to one.
Yego further urged the youth to engage themselves with activities that will see them grow economically.
“As a County we have invested in a potato planter and harvester. It is upon you as youths to make use of what the County has in place for you” said Yego.
On her part,Kephis Managing Director Dr Esther Kimani assured farmers that her institution has been keen on the quality of seeds calling on them to raise any concerns the moment they suspect the quality of any seed variety.
