Mechanization of dairy production plays a great role in reducing labour and increasing livestock production.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu is Cognizant in realizing mechanization, this through empowering farmers through the purchase of animal feed machines that is available to farmers across the County.
While launching Farm machinery company ‘AgriAssist’ in Annex-Eldoret, Governor Jackson Mandago, EGH said dairy production is a lever to the big four development pillars and challenged farmers to pick modern methods of farming.
The government has set food security as among the big four agendas and dairy production is one of the tools to achieve this.
The Governor also asked farmers to practice restricted dairy farming so that they realize increased milk production.
“You have heard that anything below 10 litres per cow is below production but this can be turned around if we practice zero grazing.”
Mandago also asked farmers to join cooperative societies where they can acquire loans from his government for the purchase of farm machinery.
Chief Officer for Livestock Development Dr. Victoria Tarus asked the farmers to properly plan their farms for record keeping, equipment storage and other practices that support maximization of production.
“Let us engage in modern production. By use of these technologies, you are assured of an improved dairy production”, added Dr. Tarus.
Erick Dejong, the Director of AgriAssist says Uasin Gishu is the breadbasket of the country and has a big potential for milk production.
“For this reason, we purpose to link farmers to better machinery and skill that will improve dairy production”, noted Erick.
Livestock Director Simeon Langat asked farmers to utilize the County’s AI program that is aimed at improving their breed thus increasing milk production.
A dairy farmer, Fred Kibor said: “Let us change the way we do our farming so that we increase our production”.
“…It is good to adopt modern technologies that have succeeded in other developed economies”, added Kibor
AgriAssist is a company by Dutch investor Erick Dejong. The organization specializes in dairy equipment and training of farmers in mechanization.
