MANDAGO APPEALS FOR CALM, CALLS FOR PROSECUTION OF ROGUE POLICE

Governor Jackson Mandago led other leaders in calming down members of the public following killing of three people in Nandi County’s Lessos Town.

Thursday confrontation between the public led to the death of two persons, in skirmishes that had primarily erupted after a man was shot dead by police reportedly “for not having a mask.” The incidents happened in Lessos.

In a tensed gathering, Mandago gave a touching address that cooled down the situation in Lessos Town.

At the meeting attended by political leaders and police bosses, Mandago called for investigation and prosecution of the matter.

Also, the Governor asked members of the public to desist from yielding to bribing police officers. Bribes, he says, creates a lawless society.

It is better to face charges of either not having a reflector jacket for a motorbike or even an expired license of a car than to give bribe. If you are taken to court and fined, the next day you will have complied with the laws.”

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Edward Mbugua, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya, Kapseret and Nandi Hills MPs Oscar Sudi and Alfred Keter, were among leaders present.

Later, Mandago visited a family that lost kin in the Thursday incident, where he gave his condolence and appealed for justice for the families affected.
