The County Executive in Charge of Water, Environment, Tourism and Wildlife Management Mrs Mary Njogu in-conjunction with a delegation from Sweden, teachers, pupils from Kipkaren Primary School and members of the community from Kipkaren Estate today held a clean-up exercise.
Speaking during the one-day exercise, the CECM said that keeping the environment clean is one of the key agendas of the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
Mrs Njogu noted that it’s much easier to educate young children about the importance of keeping the environment clean because they learn fast compared to adults.
As the Swahili saying goes, “samaki mkunje angali mbichi,” the main aim of the exercise is to cultivate a culture of keeping the environment clean in school going children.
She urged members of the public to be responsible for keeping their environment clean.
She also emphasized the importance of living in a clean environment adding that she will ensure that the exercise is undertaken at least once a month.
On his part, Kipkaren Primary School Headteacher Mr Mureithi Kariuki assured the CEC that he will mobilize the pupils, teachers and parents to maintain the monthly exercise.
The cleaning exercise is expected to head to Kimumu, Sogomo and University of Eldoret in the subsequent weeks.
Apart from the cleaning exercise, the team also met the upper primary pupils and supplied them with sanitary towels beside giving them words of encouragement as they proceed with learning.
