Three Members of the County Executive Committee of the County Government of Uasin Gishu today toured the Eldoret main market. Accompanied by their acting respective Chief Officers, the team drawn from Lands, Trade and environment were on a fact finding mission on the dilapidated state of the market.
According to CECs Mary Njogu (Environment), Nelson Maritim (Lands) and Dr Emily Kogos (Trade), the hawkers market needs serious accessibility measures taken as well as the construction of a drainage system to aid in waste disposal so as to curb illegal damping .The dampness witnessed at the market is believed to be caused by the heavy rain that is pounding across the Country.
Mrs Njogu called on the market committee and the public to work closely with Uasin Gishu County Government administration in the realization of a clean environment not only in Eldoret town but also in the villages.
She sounded an alarming warning to the jua kali committee members for allegedly neglecting to report cases where old motor vehicle tyres believed to be ferried from other Counties are being burnt at river Sosiani.”We will not be responsible for digging a huge mountain of the remains of the burnt tyres” She said.”…..You should be responsible for what you have been generating. In this case the County will only provide the vehicle that will transport the waste “poised Njogu
