County Government of Uasin Gishu earlier today hosted the Institution of Kenya Surveyors Sensitization forum on land laws and regulations at an Eldoret hotel.
The forum which is themed – Supporting smooth implementation of the land laws – saw professionals drawn from both public and private sector institutions converge to deliberate on how best citizens can be safeguarded on matters concerning land.
The forum is an ongoing countrywide program to sensitive citizens on the existing land laws and regulations and also changes that have been made in the recent past. Uasin Gishu hosts the region’s counties of North Rift Economic Block (NOREB).
Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor H.E Hon Daniel Chemno, on his official opening of the meeting, remarks, called upon all stakeholders to come up with and agree on legislation that will be able to control and bring sanity in the land sector.
…….as a county and on behalf of the counties from within the region, we need to bring order and sanity on matters of land now that the land docket is devolved….”, Chemno said.
The Deputy added that the region’s counties must take advantage and work with professionals to come up with legislation that will ensure that staff from the land department are insulated from prosecution.
On his part, Mr. Abraham Samoei, the Chairman of the ISK, reiterated the need by the government to bolster the appendage by the President of the significant changes to the Land Act 2012, for the total implementation of the Land laws and regulations.
Chief Officer of the Lands and Housing docket Ms. Ruth Chelashaw said Uasin Gishu is glad and willing to work with the institution on matters of legal cooperation in the implementation of land laws.
