RESIDENTS URGED TO EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE HANDLING FLAMMABLE MATERIALS

Uasin Gishu residents have been advised to exercise caution and follow safety measures while handling gas cylinders to avoid disasters in their homes. The caution also extends to the encroachment on land meant for road networks for easy access during such rescue missions.

Acting Chief Fire Officer David Sitati, while leading a team of firefighters on Wednesday during a fire outbreak at Langas estate, said that to quickly respond to the emergencies, landowners need to avoid encroaching on land set aside for roads for easy access by the fire trucks and water browsers.

Heavy smoke and flames were seen emanating and spreading to the neighbouring houses but thanks to the Uasin Gishu firefighter’s quick response and arrival to the scene, using all tactics and professionalism they manoeuvred the fire trucks and water browsers to salvage property worth millions.

According to Charles Kinyanjui, a caretaker of the plot the incident was a result of a gas cylinder explosion in one of the houses located behind Ndupawa Hotel. Three houses were engulfed in flames.
