CECM LANDS CONDUCTS INSPECTION AND COMPLIANCE OF BUILDINGS IN ELDORET

It is vital for property developers to comply to provided laws on construction to ensure the safety of all residents in building.

“… these were the sentiments of Dr. Janeth Kosgei, the County Executive Committee Member for the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development as she conducted a long day site visit of various ongoing and completed buildings to ensure that it meets all the requirements as provided by law in several estates.

In her comments, Dr. Kosgei noted that statutory regulations of buildings were the only sure way to avert occurrences of buildings collapsing.

She noted that the structure along Uganda road that was identified as unsafe due to deterioration and instability had paused a danger to the people operating businesses in it and the pedestrians along the street hence was condemned.

She cautioned the inspection team to ensure that the buildings marked as not compliant to ensure they provide a report from registered structural engineer to ascertain the safety of the building and assurity of quality materials used for durable and safe buildings.

In her comments at Mwanzo estate where Road encroachment had been witnessed, she asked the team to ensure that all roads remain passable for use by the publica and all obstructions removed from road reserves.

Lands and Physical Planning Chief officer Mr Nathan Korir, together with the team from Physical Planning department, Development control and building inspection sections noted that it was important to do frequent site visits to check on compliance of the process of inspection of buildings.

Going forward we shall have frequent site visits to all developments to ascertain compliance with complete approvals from NEMA, National Construction Authority and The County Physical Planning office. Its also important to ensure compliance from plan approvals, inspection of materials, testing and construction activities for the safety of residents,” said Mr Korir.

Also present in the site visit Were Director Physical Planning Planner Daniel Koech, Director Urban Development Planner Jacktone Kiprop and senior planners.
