UASIN GISHU WIN NATIONAL TRIALS AS TEAM FOR AFRICA GAMES IS NAMED

Uasin Gishu men were on Saturday evening crowned winners of the 2023 National Para Volleyball Trials in a tourney held in Eldoret.
In their final match against Nairobi men, Uasin Gishu lost the first set 12-25, won the second 25-23, lost the third 12-25 but won the fourth and fifth, 25-23 and 15-11 for a 3-2 victory.Their female counterparts had to settle for second place after losing to Nairobi 3-0 of 23-25, 22-25 and 12-25 in the finals.

Bungoma men and Kisumu women emerged third in their categories after seeing off Nakuru men 25-21, 17-25, 25-15, 25-18) and Narok women (19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20), respectively, in the playoffs.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba, said he recognizes the undertakings that the County Government of Uasin Gishu is putting in to support and grow diverse talent. The CS said the Ministry has a purpose to support talent and sitting volleyball is among the many new programs that the government is focusing on.

Uasin Gishy County Assembly’s chair of Youth and Sports Committee, Gilbert Lagat, said the sitting volleyball trials showed a thrilling sport and promised to support the discipline in legislation.

County Executive for Sports, Eng Lucy Ng’endo said the Governor is focused on talent development and empowering youth to earn from their abilities.
The national trials that ended at the weekend were used as a selection for the Kenyan team for the All-Africa Games in Ghana in September. 22 athletes were selected for the September assignment, 12 from Uasin Gishu County.
