COUNTY TO PARTNER WITH BRIGADIER BOINETT FOUNDATION TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Tourism led by Chief Officer for Trade Elphas Kesio on Friday held a consultative meeting with Brigadier Boinett Foundation in a possible partnership on the promotion of sustainable tourism in Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr Kesio stated that the County Government is interested in its tourism sector as a hub of innovation and development as a revenue earner.

“We aim at improving the tourism sector by profiling Eldoret as an athletics and sports nerve and tourist area,” said Kesio.

He also noted that the county government plays a critical role in tourism development as the sector is a key catalyst for economic growth.

Director of Tourism Ms. Margaret Aiyabei on her part commended the endless efforts made by the County to promote tourism and market Uasin Gishu as a tourist destination even as Eldoret hosts the Devolution Conference in August this year.

The North Rift Economic Bloc is planning to have a tourist information centre at the Eldoret International Airport to advocate and integrate touristo diversify and enhance our customers’ satisfaction,” said Aiyabei.m circuit 

It is through the partnership that the branded signages will be put up to showcase the tourism products that the county offers. Moreover, the partnership also aims at rebranding the existing signages at various boundaries in Uasin Gishu which will help advertise hidden tourist attraction sites, such as Kaptagat forest.

Areas such as roundabouts, the city centre and County headquarters were also suggested to be worked on to enhance the county’s image which in turn will increase visitor demand.

In the meeting, proposals were made such as a museum to showcase the County of Champions in terms of culture, heritage, sports and adventure.

The Department of Trade and Tourism is partnering with various stakeholders/ partners in planning and mobilizing resources in readiness for the devolution conference in August this year.
