Uasin Gishu County through the Department of Agriculture, Agribusiness Livestock and Fisheries through Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP) is empowering residents of Uasin Gishu by implementing different economic empowerment initiatives.
On Friday the department distributed over Ksh.10 million worth of donations for empowerment to groups in Ainabkoi Ward, Ainabkoi Sub County. They include sheep, beehives, fertilizers, one-month-old chicks, and certified potato seedlings among others.
The County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Mr Edward Sawe asked the beneficiaries to ensure that they expand the idea by ploughing back their profits to the business.
Sawe said Cooperatives play an important role in transforming livelihoods. He added that Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration is committed to empowering the cooperative movement through the Cooperative Enterprise Funds.
According to Sawe most of the failures of co-operative societies are because of ineffective leadership. He urged the leadership of Ainabkoi cooperative society to exercise transparency and integrity for prosperity.
Chief Officer for Agriculture Mr. Elijah Koech said the mobilisation of residents to join Ainabkoi Sacco is underway noting that the next project will not be grands but will be a loan that requires one to belong to Sacco to benefit.
On his part, Chief Officer for Livestock, Mr Nixon Cheplong urged the beneficiaries to use what they were been given to uplift their lives.
KCSAP Coordinator Casmas Lang’at was present during the exercise.
