GOVERNOR CHELILIM COMMITS TO ENHANCING FOREST COVERAGE IN THE REGION

Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Jonathan Bii has pledged his active participation in efforts to increase forest cover and safeguard water catchment areas for the benefit of residents. This commitment was conveyed by Dr. Abraham Serem, County Executive Committee Member for Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Energy Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, during a tree planting and distribution event held at Yemit Boys High School in Elgeiyo Marakwet County.

The primary objective of the exercise was to conserve Chebara Dam, the main water supply source for the county. Dr. Serem, representing the Governor, emphasized that increasing forest cover is a collective responsibility that requires the collaboration of all stakeholders, including the County Government, private enterprises, and the community.

“Increasing forest cover demands the combined efforts of the County Government, private enterprises, and all residents,” stated Dr. Serem. He further highlighted the grave threat posed by deforestation and habitat destruction to our climate and urged everyone to unite in making a positive impact.

The event was attended by Chief Officer Mary Kerich of Energy, Environment, and Climate Change, as well as key stakeholders, public institutions, and other high-ranking county officials.
