TRADE DEPARTMENT TO UNLEASH MARKET POTENTIAL THOUGH PROVISION OF KEY AMENITIES

The County Department of Trade, Industrialization Tourism Cooperatives and Enterprise Development is working on avenues aimed at increasing the efficiency of markets to benefit traders across the county.

This, Trade County Executive Committee Member, Martha Cheruto, says the plan is to unleash the full potential of market premises by ensuring that amenities and other requirements are fully provided to realize improved trade and growth of economies.

The CECM, who spoke in Kamagut Ward during the handing over of the construction of Cheramei Market’s ablution block, and perimeter wall fencing among other renovations to the contractor said the plan seeks to fulfil the trade pillar as set out in the Governor’s Nguzo Kumi agendas.

Area Member of County Assembly, Samuel Sawe, noted that upon completion, the facility will greatly contribute to the development and growth of the Cheramei Shopping Center.

Trade Chief Officer, Elphas Kesio, said the department will provide the necessary support needed to see the market completed within the shortest time possible calling on the contractor to ensure that he delivers quality work and within the timeline.

Later on, the CECM together with the team visited a cement manufacturing factory that is being set up in Mogoiwet village, Kamagut Ward in Turbo Sub County, to check on their preparedness ahead of the commencement of operations next month.

Speaking during the visit, Cheruto said Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration has put in place several infrastructural mechanisms all aimed at creating a favourable environment for investors including those in the manufacturing sector.

The cement grinding company intends to start by producing a capacity of 500 tonnes per day and will install more machines within a year to enable the plant to produce 3000 tonnes of cement in a day. The factory is expected to spur economic growth and create employment for more than 10,000 youths.
