LANGAS WARD RESIDENTS SHARE INSIGHTS ON CLIMATE RISK ASSESSMENT

The Department of, Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Energy Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change is in the process of collecting data related to climate change in the County.

Beginning the process of data collection at Langas ward, Mr. Abraham Magut the Ag. Sub County Administrator for Kapseret led a team of experts on Environmental conservation and climate risk management on public participation and development of data from Langas ward.

The widely attended function saw representatives drawn from blocks 1,2,3,4,5,6 and Yamumbi share their input compressively.

From the data, issues affecting climate change were noted to be flooding that was experienced in 1998-1999, serious drought between 2012 and 2022, high population growth leading to encroachment of land in swamps and along the river, low tree density as developments take more space, pollution of air from decaying garbage and inadequacy in liquid waste management.

Ward Administrator Langas Mr. Simon Kogo, Millicent Kisia Agriculture officer and Mr. Geoffrey Rono who is an environment officer led teams from each block to derive the information that will be used to create a funding model to mitigate the challenges.
