PREPARATIONS START FOR ROLLOUT OF MILK FEEDING PROGRAM

The Department of Education has set in motion preparations for the launch of the County Flagship Project – the milk feeding program.

The program is targeting all the Early Child Development Centres across Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking during a meeting with 44 ECDE coordinators and County Education officers on Friday, Education County Executive, Dr Janeth Kosgei, said they plan to launch the program tentatively on May 23, 2023.

Dr Kosgei said the program is part of commitments from Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration to ensure the needs of children are fully catered for.

We appreciate our Governor for focusing on ECDEs, he has seriously invested in early child learning, dedicated a lot of resources and it started with him confirming all the ECDE teachers,” the CECM said.

The County has already allocated Ksh 60 million for the project in the current financial year.

Already, procurement has been finalized and the milk is being packaged.

We are launching it on 23rd May 2023. We have been working well in preparations for the event and our milk is from KCC,” noted the CECM.

She further noted that the Department is currently working on data collection in a bid to ensure all the ECDE centres are ready to handle the milk which is expected to start by distributed by May 15.

According to the County Executive, the milk feeding program targeting 40,000 ECDE learners targets to increase enrollment and retain them in school.

Later the CECM received at the site the first batch of ECDE learning materials.

Director of Education Shadrack Morogo and his Deputy, Pius Mosbei, among other officials, were present.
