Uasin Gishu teams opened their Kenya Youth Inter-Counties Sports Association (KYISA) title campaigns on a high note by chaffing off opponents in the first volleyball fixtures.
On Tuesday, the “Champions queens” as they fondly refer to themselves at the games in Tharaka Nithi, hurried things up, closing the first set score sheet with a 25-16 victory in their match against Busia County.
Busia came back to win the second set 25-20. The Mercy Letting, the captain, recalled her artillery – and it paid off – Uasin Gishu winning the third and fourth sets 25-22 and 26-24 for a 3-1 victory.
Uasin Gishu men’s team hammered Nyandarua 3-0 in a late afternoon match where the champions ran the riot act, showcasing their pedigree jumping and spiking prowess.
The ladies also nailed another victory, this time showing no mercy to hosts cousins, Embu County, in a one-sided match that ended 3-0, in a match played late in the afternoon.
“The teams are off to a good start at the games. They have a winning spirit and indeed, they are focused on a good result,” says Director for Sports, Henry Mukholwe.
