Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muhoria on Friday presided over the launch of a greening initiative targeting TVETs across the country.
Speaking during the event held at the Eldoret National Polytechnic, Dr. Muhoria said they are targeting to plant at least 5 million tree seedlings this year, and over a billion within the next five years.
The PS said the move is meant to ensure TVETs also play their role towards supporting President William Ruto’s greening initiative that targets to plant over 15 billion trees in the next 10 years.
We have launched a tree planting in all the TVETs and I am also encouraging principals and stakeholders to go into greening,” said Dr Muhoria.
Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Vocational Training Dr. Janeth Kosgei who also attended the event said the initiative will help address the negative effects of climate change that the country has been facing.
Dr. Kosgei further affirmed the county’s commitment to supporting the greening initiative.
We have encouraged our institutions to embrace greening as we believe this is the solution to climate change,” said the CECM.
2.9 million tree seeds were issued to TVET institutions during the launch of the greening initiative.
