Over 1,300 Early Childhood Development Education teachers that the County recently employed on permanent and pensionable terms have now been enrolled on the LapFund.

County Executive Committee Member for Education, Dr. Janeth Kosgei, on Wednesday presided over an event that saw the teachers register with the fund under which they will be making their contributions.

Addressing the teachers, Dr. Kosgei said it was important for them to be enrolled on LapFund to ensure they save enough and plan for retirement.

The CECM further said the county has invested heavily in improving the ECDE sector. She noted that currently, they are implementing several programs among them, the free school milk program which will be rolled out in soon.

Dr. Kosgei said the program aims at enhancing the nutrition of the children and enhancing enrolment.

She further said the County has trained a number of ECDE teachers on the new system of Competency-Based Curriculum.

County Executive Committee Member for Devolution and Administration, Elijah Kosgei, on his part encouraged the teachers to embrace LapFund enrollment.

It’s good to save, and when given a job look at the future,” Kosgey advised.

On her part, Education Chief Officer Ruth Samoei challenged the ECDE teachers to prepare to be accounting officers for the milk feeding program.

We don’t want to come to your school and find cups for sharing the milk. You will be stealing from the children,” said the chief officer.

Further, the County Director of Human Resources, Josphat Rotich, said it had been agreed that all new employees will be enrolled in the savings plan.

Under the fund, a teacher contributes 12 percent of his/her basic salary together with a house allowance monthly with the county contributing 15 percent of the same amount.

Funds contributed to LapFund are paid to an individual upon retirement.

Chief Officers for Gender Eunice Suter, Abdirahman Sankor (Partnership and Linkages), Marion Birgen (Public Service Management), Acting Director for Education Pius Mosbei, and LapFund Regional Coordinator Jackson Mesocho were in attendance.
