The County Government of Uasin Gishu is in discussions with the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO) in an arrangement aimed at promoting and strengthening the cooperative movement in the county.
Acting Chief Officer for Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Nixon Cheplong flanked by Director Enterprise Fund Isaac Lagat and Cooperative Commissioner Roselyne Rae on Wednesday hosted a delegation KUSCCO.
Speaking during the meeting, Cheplong noted that the areas of partnership include financial credit facilities to Saccos, aspects of (Information Communication Technology) on the management of confidential information by these entities as well as capacity building, among others.
Kuscco, apart from working on how they will lend cooperative societies with mortgages, will also be sensitizing them to have more youth in their memberships.
Kuscco Branch Manager, Alton Ochuma, said they are working with other stakeholders to grow and better cooperatives across the county.
Because we are domiciled in Uasin Gishu, we are assuring you that being an umbrella body, the expertise that we have in finance and other areas, is important to all county societies and Saccos to grow themselves better,” noted Ochuma.
Lagat on his part said: “We should have frequent meetings on how we can engage for the betterment of our Saccos, especially on training because we have emerging issues affecting them.”
KUSCCO is the umbrella body of savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs) in Kenya. It advocates for a level environment in which Saccos can operate, by actively engaging in all advocacy issues affecting the growth and development of Saccos.
