The County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development has hinted at a plan to soon see the multi-million Moisoy maize milling plant project begin its operations.
The milling plant which is currently 70% complete is expected to be an aggregation centre soon after some of the key components such as the installation of electricity, and completion of other remaining works are affected.
Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with the Union’s officials on the identification of potential partners and how to pull resources to see the project kick start its intended operations, County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development, Martha Cheruto said the Governor’s agenda on aggregation must be achieved pointing out Moisoy as one of the focus areas the County Administration is striving to see it operational.
We must do everything possible for this project to start running its operations. As the Governor works on establishing aggregation centres in the County, Moisoy needs to be ready to start aggregating maize” said Cheruto
Edward Sawe, CECM for Agriculture, Agribusiness, Livestock and Fisheries noted that there is a need to work on the basics and instil integrity in the management of the Union for the primary cooperative members to see the need to buy more shares.
This is a huge project and remember we’re going to compete with multinational companies in this value chain and so we must plan ourselves very well” added Sawe
Moisoy Chairman Moses Tenai appreciated the County Government for always advising them to work with speed adding that they are still mobilizing farmers to continue buying shares for them to own the project and have the project completed.
Since its establishment in 2019, Moisoy has a membership of over 7000 drawn from 58 primary cooperative societies of Moiben and Soy Sub-Counties.
Director County Enterprise Development Fund Isaac Lagat and Ag. County Cooperative Commissioner Roselyne Rae were present.
