The Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness on Tuesday hosted the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) who are currently in the County to train Agricultural officers ahead of trials that are set to be undertaken in Uasin Gishu County.
County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Mr. Edward Sawe, Accompanied by Agriculture Chief Officer Elijah Koech praise IFDC for choosing Uasin Gishu to carry out fertilizer Trials saying that Soil acidity is rapidly becoming a problem in the county.
Sawe noted that the trials will entail knowledge sharing and innovative skills and practices to use the various modern products in the market.
Farmers have been using their models which has always resulted in poor yielding,” Says Sawe.
Agriculture and Agribusiness Chief Officer Elijah Koech said that there is a need to revolutionize farmers by ensuring proper calibration of planters and proper seed and fertilizer depths.
John Wendt a soil fertility specialist from IFDC said that during the trials, soil testing will be carried out by qualified laboratories to identify major nutrient gaps for them to understand the extent of nutrient deficiencies to help during the development and marketing of improved fertilizers.
