COUNTY HOSTS PRESIDENTIAL ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION SECRETARIAT (PETS) TO SENSITIZE FARMERS

The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Monday hosted the presidential Economic Transformation Secretariat (PETs) who are in the County for a sensitization meeting on the farm Resource Management model.

Speaking during the meeting, Agriculture CECM Mr. Edward Sawe pledged the county’s willingness to work with all stakeholders in sensitizing and ensuring the implementation of the new farming model in the county beginning at the ward level.

We can’t do Agriculture the same way we’ve been doing and expect an improvement in the production,” he added.

According to Sawe, society now needs to be taught about modern farming saying that agricultural productivity is shrinking because farming has become a side hustle for the majority of our people.

He also encouraged the stakeholders in various departments to ensure equal distribution of responsibilities, working together to warrant the operationalization of the model.

On his part, Advisor of Food Security Dr. Dominic Menjo said that the country depends on agricultural production for economic growth hence the need to upgrade the system of farming.

He also said the central government is sure to execute the fertilizer subsidy & committed to working with county leadership to ensure food security for the people.

“We are taking a paradigm shift from production to resource farming for us to enhance production”, he added.
