Simat, Kipkenyo and Langas Warriors men’s teams are some of the squads that have booked their space into the ward finals of the Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament.
As was expected, top-notch action was witnessed in four wards across Kapseret Sub-County, as the search for the best of the best got underway in Kapseret Sub-County on Saturday.
Highrise and Kipkaren men’s teams qualified for the finals, with Kipkaren and Pioneer ladies ready to rumble in Kipkenyo Ward finals set for Sunday.
In Langas Ward, Langas Warriors, Mwiruti Spikes and Kotab Sait placed first, second and third in the men’s qualification. Yamumbi Club, Kotab Sait and Langas Starlets placed in that order in the ladies’ chart.
Highly cheered and well-attended battles for qualification saw Simat, Ng’aniat and Newlands qualify in tensed contests played at Lemook Primary School in Simat/Kapseret Ward.
Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot, County Executive for Youth and Sports, Eng Lucy Ng’endo, Chief Officer for Sports Nahum Jelagat, malkia strikers volleyball team coach, Paul Bitok witnessed the action.
Qualified teams are expected to dig into their reserves. Each team will be looking to sail through, keeping hopes alive for the penultimate gong – the Governor’s Cup trophy – that comes along with other prizes.
The tournament seeks to, among others, help youths identify and commercialize their talents as well as sensitize them against alcohol and substance abuse.
