COUNTY, EPZ AGENCY TALKS ON ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has proved to be investor friendly by establishing mechanisms that not only attract but meet all investor requirements.

This is evident by Thursday talks held at the county headquarters between the County Government officials from the Departments of Trade, Lands and Roads and the team from the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) on the preliminary preparations for the gazettement of an Export Processing Zone(EPZ) in Cherunya, Langas ward, Kapseret Sub-County.

Leading the County team, County Executive Committee Member for Lands and Physical Planning Anthony Sitienei said the project is crucial to the county assuring the agency that the administration will do everything possible to fast-track all the requirements to see the project kick-off as soon as possible.

This is a joint project between us as the county and the national government. We commit to providing you with the necessary support”

According to EPZA representative Moses Kipkebut, already 123 acres of land from the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC), a national agency has been identified for the setting up of various industrial parks among them, garment making industrial park expected to begin soon.

Kipkebut said as EPZA they help in facilitating export-oriented investment to the EAC adding that their visit was also to give a description of the park as it will be a customs territory as required by the East Africa Customs Act and regulations.

The zone is expected to employ over 3000 employees as well as open up opportunities for other Agro-processing investors.
