COUNTY INTENSIFIES STRATEGIES TO MITIGATE ALCOHOLISM

The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Wednesday held meeting with Alcoholic Drinks licensing committee to assess the inspection report after the inspection exercise that was carried out between 16th to 20th of January to make recommendations on the application for licensing of clubs and bars.

Speaking while chairing the meeting at the County Secretary’s boardroom,CS Edwin Bett said that the process aims at licensing and lessening of the production, distribution and vending of liquor in the county to improve the livelihood of the residents and protection of young generation.

According to Turbo sub-county DCC Mohammed Mwabudzo who represented the County Commissioner the County’s preparations of elevating to city status is underway and semi permanent structures and pit latrines will not be allowed in the Central Business District (CBD).

He added that enforcement shall be embraced to ensure prompt compliance with the laws implemented.

On their part,Acting Director ADCB Koiya Arap Maiyo and Sarah kendagor the applicants whose business premises are near the schools and residential areas shall not be permitted to operationalise.
