COUNTY HOLDS STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT AHEAD OF WORLD TB DAY COMMEMORATION

The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Tuesday held World Tuberculosis stakeholders engagement in a bid to plan ,discuss and prepare for this year’s World TB Day which will be hosted by Uasin Gishu on 24th March 2023.

The 2023 World TB day is themed YES!WE CAN END TB calls for togetherness in the fight against the disease by raising public awareness to encourage members of the public to get screened,tested and treated while engaging the community, healthcare and political structures.

Speaking during the meeting, Acting Director Health -clinical services, Dr Ronald Kipchumba, said that the County notified 1907 cases of TB ,an increase of 30% compared to 2022 this attributed to all the County health facilities’ involvement in different levels of TB engagement that include screening, diagnostic and treatment.

He also noted that the County boasts of seven TB control Zones that include Turbo, Moiben,Kapseret,Soy , Ainabkoi,Kesses and MTRH with 86 treatment sites,66 diagnostic sites and 3GENE XP sites (MTRH with 2 machines, Huruma with one and one at KDF recruits school).The county also has specialized diagnostic equipment at Turbo (Truenut) and Ziwa (Tb lamp) This machines diagnose Tb and detect resistance to medicine. Samples are referred to this sites from any of our facilities both public and private via riders

According to Charles Makwila, the County TB focal person, the engagement will cultivate cultural values that will foster collaboration, coordination and integration of TB interventions therefore the need to prioritise TB in domestic resource allocation,utilization and intergation.
