Youth across Uasin Gishu County have an opportunity to hone their sports skills even as the registration for 2023 Governor’s Volleyball Cup begins.
Ward Administrators, with guidance from Members of County Assembly will lead the identification and registration of players at the ward level, starting February 1, 2023, across the 30 wards. Registration is free.
To enlist into the tournament, one must not be a professional player, must come from said ward, must not be a civil servant and must be between 18-35 years.
The tourney is inspired by one of Governor Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi’s agenda of youth empowerment and tapping of sports talent.
Speaking on Tuesday during a steering committee meeting, County Executive for Sports, Engineer Lucy Ng’endo said: ” The Governor is very particular with tapping sports talent for our youth to prosper through sports.”
The Theme “Talent development for economic empowerment and climate change and the slogan as Vijana ni Nguzo, tuwakuze.
County Seceratary, Edwin Bett, asked the administrators to work closely with MCAs for identification.
The technical team also encompasses officers from the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), meaning the rules are ratified by the federation.
