The County Government of Uasin Gishu has made tremendous strides in the adoption and use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in most of its services.
The Department of ICT and e-Government has automated most of the services among others the payment of parking which is now easy and simple to use.
While narrating how the department has invested in the ICT sector to the Nyeri County ICT delegation who are in the county on a benchmark mission, Uasin Gishu county executive for ICT, Trade, and Industrialization Dr. Emily Kogos said the county systems have to a great extent eased daily services across the county.
Taking for example payment of parking fee and application of single business permits, clients can use the shortest time to get these services unlike when things were being done in an analog way,” said Kogos
And on how best the job portal works, this being the major concern by the Nyeri delegation, Kogos said the system has footprints and it enhances objectivity and fairness since applicants can get notifications from the time of application notifying them of their respective application, whether shortlisted or not and schedule for interviews.
Deputy County Secretary Joyce Kebenei noted that it’s advantageous when counties utilize what other counties have in place.
Putting into implementation what is learned from within the counties is much easier,” said Kebenei
Nyeri’s head of delegation and Director Human Resource CPSB Edward Mwangi lauded the county’s commitment to setting out structures that have seen automation of several services.
We’re still doing our recruitment manually and this has really put us in difficult situations. Sometimes we cannot explain to the applicants whether we received their applications or not”
He further said “We are going to put forward proposals and implementations now that we’ve learned how the system is developed”
Outgoing CPSB Chair Joseph Tanui, incoming CPSB Vice Chair Paul Lagat, ICT CO John Kemboi, ICT Director Titus Kimaiyo, various head of ICT systems were present.
