Uasin Gishu’s Chief Officer for Health Services Mr Wilson Kemei has asked all the officers incharge of health facilities across the County to frequently contact the County pharmacist on issues of drugs.
While speaking on Friday during an improptu visit to Kuinet Health Centre,Cheramei Dispensary and Turbo Sub County hospital, Kemei noted that the County’s department of Health has put measures in place that ensure all County facilities are equipped with an adequate supply of drugs.
“In the past financial years,we had challenges on procurement of drugs. We usually procured our drugs quarterly ,this didn’t work at all” said kemei
“We went ahead and introduced a strategy where we procured drugs twice a year which worked very well” he added
The Chief Officer further noted that next week,the department is expecting to receive a consignment of drugs worth ksh 95m.
The drugs, he said will be distributed to all facilities according to their priorities.
Usually the 121 County facilities have been contacting KEMSA on an independent level on the kind of drugs they need.
And with the help of the ready County drug store,all drugs upon being received will be stored after which it will await distribution.
In Turbo the CO inspected the newly acquired state of the art X-ray machines,the construction of 36 bed male and female wards in Kuinet Health Centre and 30 bed male,female and children wards in Cheramei Dispensary.
