FORMATION OF RIVER SOSSIANI NATURE PARK

As Eldoret sights City Status declaration, the need for more and attractive amusement parks is becoming one of the priorities aimed at promoting tourism activities in the soon-to-be City.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu rehabilitated Nandi Park, a once dilapidated scene, into what has turned out to be the town’s most ideal venue to relax.
As a result of the positive outcome of the park, it has attracted many people who relax at the park due to its serenity; creating more need to come up with another park as the existing one (Nandi Park) is becoming congested.
On Monday, the department of Environment, Water, Tourism and Wildlife Management in collaboration with The Local Urban Forums organized a public participation to get views from the people on what should be incorporated in the new park, which will soon be established along River Sosiani.
The park, Sosiani River Nature Park, is expected to be a state-of-the-art place with internet services, botanical garden, children playing facilities and an information center which will be a mutual benefit to the County and the public.
Speaking during the function, CECM in charge of the department, Mrs Mary Njogu noted the County’s effort in coming up with the park which will be a one stop destination for people from within the County and for visitors as well.
“We are also in talks with the Kenya Forest Service to come up with an arboretum along the Iten-Eldoret road that will shelter wildlife, and then Eldoret will be a tourist attraction centre,” said Njogu.
On his side, Geofrey Kirui, convener for the Local Urban Forums said they will offer crucial advice on plans and layout of the upcoming park.
Basing on Nandi Park, a place that hosts up to a thousand people daily, the upcoming park will springboard the County’s tourism as well as conserving the environment.
