FORMAL OPENING IPOA OFFICE IN ELDORET

Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to expedite investigations on rights violation.
The Deputy Governor spoke after cutting the tape to formally open IPOA’s North Rift office in Eldoret.
According to Chemno, the public expect a lot from the authority, which performs the role of oversight and investigates concerns and complains raised by Kenyans against the police.
“I appeal to IPOA to tighten their systems for speeding up of investigations whenever cases and complains arise,” said Chemno. He also added that complainants need to be updated constantly on the progress of investigations.
He also promised the County Government of Uasin Gishu’s commitment on muscling up IPOA’s operations, adding that it is the responsibility of every Kenyan to contribute to protection of human rights.
IPOA vice chair Jedidah Ntoyai said the authority is extending its reach as well as sensitizing people on their functions as a protector of human rights. “As a board, we are working to meet the constitution’s requirement of taking services closer to the people. The opening of this office broadens our reach,” said Ntoyai.
The Eldoret office is set to serve seven counties of the North Rift. The headquarters is in the capital, Nairobi.
