Enhancing Land Use and Physical Planning in Uasin Gishu

The County Executive Committee Member in charge of the Department of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development Eng Nelson Maritim, today chaired the inauguration of the Land use and Physical Planning forum and Liason Committee in a bid to bring both parties to deliver on Land use and Physical planning processes in Uasin Gishu in line with provided Laws, regulations, plans and institutional frameworks.

According to Eng. Maritim who is also the fora chair, the fora and liason committee that comprises professionals and experts drawn from Physical Planning, Survey, Architecture, Environment, Finance, among others will be charged with providing guidance and solutions that address long-term developments that integrate with strategic plans.

“As the town grows and looking forward to city status we need a well defined form of growth especially with upsurge in new estates, to ensure that there is an orderly development that adheres to the provided laws. The planning process needs high-level support, active leadership from the Government agencies that will actually implement the plans, and involvement of communities. As we begin the works at hand let’s come up with a work plan and schedule of meetings to guide us deliver on our mandates,”said Eng. Maritim

CECM Finance and Economic Planning emphasized that the team should be able to provide guidance with an objective to meet the economic and social needs of people while safeguarding future resources.

His counterpart from the department of Water and Environment Mrs. Mary Njogu, congratulated the team selected to both sections terming them as very essential in delivering the future growth of Eldoret.

“We are looking forward to working with you as we have high expectations from all of us,” noted Mrs. Njogu

The Chair Laison Committee Adv. Victoria Chepseba, said that the team will come up with active subcommittees to ensure that there is a smooth cooperation and coordination within the committees.

Also in attendance was Chief officer Physical Planning and Urban Development Mr Kenneth Mbeka, Director Physical Planning Mr Daniel Koech and Planner Jacktone Kiprop
