DESILTING AND REHABILITATION OF KERITA DAM

DESILTING AND REHABILITATION OF KERITA DAM

To provide clean and adequate water supply to its residents, the County Government of Uasin Gishu, Department of Water has put in place various strategies to protect and conserve various existing water sources in the County.

One of these strategies being the desilting and rehabilitation of dams and drilling of boreholes.

The rehabilitation of the Kerita dam in Cheptiret/Kipchamo Ward, Kesses Sub-County involves the use of a water master and a long arm excavator is now at 70 percent complete. The machines have removed reeds and silt thereby paving way for smooth flowing of water out of the dam.

The 1.36 million cubic meters dam is expected to serve an approximate of 24,000 neighbouring households for domestic and irrigation purposes. The water will be connected to serve the downstream community through gravity and pumped upstream using solar power.

Present during the inspection exercise was County Director of Tourism Ms Margaret Aiyabei and other officials from the Department.
