Our Mandate
ICT:
The mandate of this department is to develop policy on automation of County functions. The key priority areas include cashless revenue collection, online human resource management, and supporting infrastructure as well as designing and developing a GIS framework to guide E-development in agriculture, roads, urban planning, and other sectors;
TRADE:
To promote economic empowerment through conducive business environment and Investment opportunities

ICT SECTIONS:
System Developments
The section is responsible for designing, programming, analyzing and coding in-house applications and data structures in accordance with and user needs and programming standards.
GIS
This section is responsible for County GIS and Satellite technology activities and tasks related to geo-information data management in all the Departments in the County
Capacity Building
The section is responsible for coordination of ICT training in the county geared towards capacity building.
System Administration
The section is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure as per organizational policies, standards and procedures to meet the needs of staff and other stakeholders.
Network Administration
The section is responsible for designing, establishing, managing, securing, monitoring and evaluating all aspects of ICT-network infrastructure that include network equipment, servers, wireless networks and network related software in the county.
TRADE AND INDUSTRIALIZATION SECTIONS:
Trade
The directorate of trade in the county is mandated to implement activities that enhance the promotion of orderly growth of trade through provision of business development services and trade regulation. It is also responsible for promotion of investment and for implementing the national trade policies at the county level. Besides, the division is expected to be accountable for advocacy and provision of consumer protection and for ensuring that business exhibit fair trade practices.
Additionally, the directorate is charged with the promotion of retail and wholesale trade through development of market infrastructures.
Through Trade, Investment and Industry sector, the County Government of Uasin Gishu aspires to be a nationally competitive and economically vibrant entity with high quality of life for all citizens. The Department is expected to play lead role in addressing high rate of unemployment among youths and women in Micro and Small enterprises. The trade sector will also champion aggressive promotion of the county to attract both Domestic and Direct Foreign Investment (FDI).
Licensing and Compliance
The Directorate of licensing and Compliance was established under the Uasin Gishu Act 2014. The Directorate carries out its functions through three main sections covering outdoor advertising, Markets and single business permits. Furthermore, the department deals with designation of hawking zones and other market areas. Principally, the directorate contributes immensely to local revenue collection.

Achievements 2013-2017
- Established four ICT centres with free internet access and other ICT services in four sub counties under the Digital Mashinani programme
- Installed CCTV within the County Headquarters in critical county government offices and hospitals for security surveillance
- Enhanced information sharing between the public and the government through development of county information portal, use of social media and installation of outdoor information screen
- Empowered 500 youth from across the county through the Youth Empowerment Programme on access to online jobs
- Installed Structured cabling at County Headquarters and fifteen other county offices and hospitals
- Automated job applications, revenue, agriculture services and hospital management
