Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago EGH on Friday presided over dedication and thanksgiving for Living Room-Kimbilio Care Centre in Kipkorgot, Ainabkoi Sub County.
The facility accommodates 45 patients.
Speaking during the event, Mandago reiterated his commitment in working with the facility saying; “We are going to work together and partner, if there is anything my administration is supposed to do and we have the capacity, we want to assure you we are going to do it. We are going to take you as partners in the provision of health care,” Mandago said.
“This is the largest palliative centre in East Africa. I know it will be used in benchmarking for most hospitals and County governments across the country,” he added.
The Governor thanked donors for the gift of the facility that has been dedicated saying it will give service to the county and the country at large.
Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar who was also present said; “We are struggling as Senate to see that anything which was devolved must be followed by the resources.”
“The intention of devolution was that every function that was devolved must be followed by funds health being one of them; the resources that Governors are been given is still low, that has become our agenda in Senate”, She said
The universal health care will only be realized if the resources that are brought down are commensurate with the devolved functions,” she added.
Kamar further said Senators we’re contemplating passing a law to allow free treatment of palliative patients especially cancer which has become a major problem.
A couple of weeks ago, Governor Mandago had asked legislators to pass a law that will see hospitals get free cancer drugs and exempt taxes to all equipments used to treat cancer.
On her part, CEC in charge of Health Everlyne Rotich noted that “We want to assure you we will work with this facility to make sure that all is well.”
CEC Road Eng Gideon Birir, CEC PSM and Devolution Barnabas Tarus, CEC Finance CPA Julius Ruto and MP Ainabkoi William Chepkut among other county officials were in attendance.
