The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sports Kenya a move aimed at refurbishing Kipchoge Keino stadium.
Speaking before the signing at the Stadium, Sports Kenya Chairman Fred Muteti said this is part of the construction works on seven stadiums across the country that is set to start immediately.
Mr. Muteti said the stadiums to be built in Marsabit, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyeri, Makueni and Uasin Gishu meet the required standards.
He further applauded Uasin Gishu County for the good work it has done in the management and maintenance of the stadium.
Uasin Gishu County Secretary Mr. Peter Leley reiterated the county’s efforts in nurturing young talent and promoting sporting activities while at the same time providing a platform for international athletes to train in the region.
“We assure you that as a county we will do our best in the management and maintenance of the stadium” added Mr. Leley.
Sports Kenya is planning to construct state of the art changing rooms, pavilion and terraces that will accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 spectators at a cost of Ksh. 230Million while the County is expected to fund the construction of parking lot and light the stadium at a cost of Ksh 100Million.
