COUNTY ON TALKS WITH AGRICULTURE AND FOOD AUTHORITY ON MACADAMIA SEEDLINGS

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, Department of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries on Tuesday hosted a delegation from Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) Nuts and Oils Crop Directorate to explore various ways of working together.

Speaking while hosting the team, Agriculture CECM Mr Samuel Yego said that the County Government is ready to work with the authority in reaching more farmers, adding that his department will put up a nursery bed in Chebororwa ATC for consistent supply of macadamia seedling.

We are also empowering farmers through cooperative societies by giving them loans through the County Enterprise Development Fund so that they can buy their own processing machines to process macadamia,” Said Mr Yego.

He further encouraged farmers to buy seedlings from licensed nursery operators to avoid immature seedlings since they already have a ready market for them, he appealed to KEPHIS to withdraw certificates of those found hawking the seedlings.

Lily Langat in charge of the technical and advisory services at Nuts and Oils Crop Directorate noted that they are working with Eureka and SK buyers to promote the local farmers.
