County Executive Committee Members Dr Emily Kogos ICT, Trade and Industrialization and her Lands and Physical Planning counterpart Eng. Nelson Maritim on Wednesday led other county officials in assessing the proposed Makutano/Kaplolo market in Karuna Meibeki Ward, Moiben Sub County.
The site sets a high potential for the establishment of a market as it borders Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to Dr Kogos, the facility will boost economic status for the people who have been depending on other low income-generating activities.
She further adds that proximity to the tarmac road between Kapsowar and Sergoit-Makutano road is one of the factors that led to the establishment of the market.
Earlier on the county officials had visited Kaplolo open-air market that ceased operating for close to 5 years following among other issues accessibility and competition from other neighbouring markets of Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Tabitha Muse who is the former beneficiary of the market thanked the County for the plans to revive the market noting that the economy of the area will get back to where it was.
We will get back to serious business like before. It is good that the market day has been brought back to Thursday to end competition from other markets within,” she said.
The open-air market will from tomorrow begin its operations going forward.
Area MCA who is also the County Assembly Leader of Majority Josephat Lowoi, Directors Kipleting Mengich (Trade) and Silas Leting (Licensing) were present.
