The County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched a County Disability Fund that will benefit 840 People Living With Disabilities in its pilot programme.
The launch will see 7.9 million given to the persons across the six Sub-Counties.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Jackson Mandago EGH, called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the money to change their lives.
“If you have a business, use the funds to expand your venture as we also expect you to employ more youth,” said Mandago.
The Governor further challenged them to form groups so as to exploit the 30 percent tenders that are reserved for them.
“The 30per cent tenders advertised in all companies and institutions belong to you and you will get them when you have registered companies,” reiterated the Governor.
Assembly speaker David Kiplagat said the assembly is in support of any programmes that work to uplift the lives of PWDs.
Beneficiaries were recommended by the Sub County appraisal committees.
Uasin Gishu County has employed 38 PLWD’s as members of staff.
“This fund will help us better our businesses. I have a shop and I hope to use the money to expand it. I thank the Governor for this,” said one of the PLWD.
County Deputy Speaker Hosea Lamai, CECM for Education, Culture, Social Services, Youth and Sports, Joseph Kurgat, Assembly majority leader Josphat Lowoi, MCAs, CECMs representing various dockets, CO Education Roselyn Kosgei, Ward administrators were among County officials present.
